As part of a long standing partnership with Jo’s Trust, Robert Music presented to Pelican staff, helping to raise awareness of Cervical Cancer in the build up to the Cervical Cancer Prevention Week; a European wide initiative lead by European Cervical Cancer Association (ECCA).
Public knowledge and understanding of cervical cancer prevention, the causes of cervical abnormalities and cervical cancer and treatments is generally low.

The week focuses on all things to do with cervical cancer including information about symptoms and causes of the disease and ways to prevent it. The organisation also wants to draw awareness to cervical cancer by providing information on the development of the disease.
Cervical cancer is a preventable disease. Despite this, in the UK in 2010, 20% of women did not take up their invitation for cervical screening and only 50% of girls offered the HPV vaccine on the catch-up programme elected to have this potentially lifesaving jab.
Awareness is improving with high profile cases of the disease and media attention such as that of Jade Goody’s. Her tragic death in 2009 has helped to spread word of the importance of going for the smear check.
Pelican Feminine Healthcare is proud to support Jo’s Trust by donating 5p from every box of PELIspec vaginal speculum sold. Our partnership with Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust is continuing and has raised over £40,000* so far and promotes awareness of cervical cancer amongst healthcare professionals and patients.
Cervical Cancer week runs from the 15 – 21st of June 2015
Please join in and help raise awareness.
