Pelican Feminine Healthcare were delighted recently to visit The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London to donate a cheque for £338.00 to their charitable initiative The SMILE Appeal - “Saving mothers’ and infants’ lives through education” The money was raised through fundraising.
The initiative aims to tackle the problems of global maternal and infant mortality. They use the experience and expertise of their global network of members and partnerships with key organisations, to make an effective contribution to improving sexual and reproductive healthcare, particularly in developing countries.
The SMILE initiative requires significant funding. RCOG do not send money, instead they send doctors. Most of the RCOG Fellows and Members give their time for free to undertake this challenging work. But to achieve their goals they need funding for the other costs of the projects such as equipment, medical supplies, travel and accommodation.
Pelican also regularly donate their PELIspec vaginal speculum and other Pelican products to the SMILE Appeal which are sent overseas to the countries where they are most needed.
